STATEMENT
by Matt Neville, Executive Director, Highland Springs
The larger-than-life leaders of the 20th century understood.
“Never was so much owed by so many to so few.” -- Winston Churchill.
The men and women who served their nation did so out of duty to defend the principle of freedom so their families, and now us, could enjoy a way of life filled with opportunities.
"We remember those who were called upon to give all a person can give, and we remember those who were prepared to make that sacrifice if it were demanded of them in the line of duty... Most of all, we remember the devotion and gallantry with which all of them ennobled their nation as they became champions of a noble cause." -- Ronald Reagan
Their service, no matter where it occurred or under which military branch, was difficult and often fraught with peril. Simply, every generation is obliged to honor these heroes through our deeds and words.
A glorious tribute to the values of duty, sacrifice and honor described by these former heads of state exists at Highland Springs. Thanks to the vision and commitment of the resident-led Veterans Affairs Group, in partnership with employees, vendors and friends, a spectacular legacy has been created to honor the men and women who served our country.
The Veterans Memorial Park is a beautiful acknowledgement of our veterans and those who have steadfastly supported their service.
As Executive Director, every day I also witness the simple expressions by which our robust community of veterans displays their pride in the armed forces, past and present. It might be a training photo from their early adult years outside of their apartment home or the wearing of their service colors as they stroll through the campus. Either way, I have learned that the residents of Highland Springs care deeply for their nation, their families and those who defend us.
On behalf of the community, I would like to thank the resident members of the Veterans Affairs Group for helping Highland Springs to serve as a beacon of remembrance and hope.
I would like to provide my sincere appreciation to Rosian for providing this special gift to our Veterans and to Highland Springs. These stories will forever bond Rosian with our Veterans, their families and our residents while giving proper recognition for their service to our great country. Thank you Rosian...we shall never forget!
