Get involved with the Highland Springs Garden Club!
Guests are always welcome to visit our gardens. But DO NOT PICK!
The eye-catching Highland Springs gardens and greenhouse did not just appear. They showcase a place that is more than just where vegetables, herbs, flowers, and house plants are grown. They are products of years of sharing ideas, trying new methods, and especially, of developing friendships.
Once the gardens were simply a piece of bare ground supporting a few weeds and grasses. Early residents envisioned beds for playing in the dirt, squirting a little water, and harvesting a few vegetables and flowers. Residents and staff designed and fashioned these beds with water lines to combat summer’s drought and fences to deter the plentiful wildlife displaced by construction.
From dirt floors in the greenhouse to concrete walkways, from swamp coolers to air conditioners, residents worked with staff to provide shelves packed with house plants and starter gardens. Residents sought to control mold, mildew, mosquitoes and other insects so members and guests could enjoy an array of blooms, blossoms, and bountiful beauty.
All that has been done, and all that will continue to be done, was accomplished by dedicated volunteers working with supportive staff. Volunteers are key to maintaining and improving the gardens and greenhouse. There is no limit to what good can be done nor to the enjoyment from gardening and sharing it with others.
